Top 10 Tips for Adobe Lightroom - Tip 1 Fast Selections
When we come back from a shoot we typically have 1000 to 1500 images to process. Here is how we use Adobe Lightroom to cut down the time spent on post production. It is a digital workflow that works for us as wedding photographers.
In Library mode set the thumbnail size large enough for you to have one or two rows of images visible so that you can make your initial comparisons. Then:
- Press the 'F' key until the screen size is max.
- Press the 'L' key to go into 'lights dim' mode.
- Set the filter, at the bottom of the screen, to show only those images that are flagged or not yet flagged ie filter out rejected items.
- Get rid of any toolbars (shift tab)
- Scroll through the images until you see one you don't like
- press the 'X' key to mark it as rejected and it disappears from your screen - continue til the end.
- When you find a group of images that are similar and need cutting down to a manageable number then
- select them all
- press the 'N' key to go into 'survey' mode. This displays all images together in a large size.
- Select the images you don't like and press 'X' to remove them.
- When done press 'G' to go back to grid view and continue the weeding process.
- Any favourites that you really like on the way can be marked with the star keys '12345'.
This works for me and is fast. We have often to process over a thousand images from a wedding shoot and this is the one reason that I like Adobe Lightroom.
